We're recording a 7"!

Howdy y'all (lets raise and rope broncos!),

We're heading into The Base recording studio in South Melbourne today for the first day of tracking our 7". It's going to be a double A side called Nomads/Unfortunate and you're going to love it.

Also we have a bunch of shows coming up, Christmas eve with Viking Frontier, January 7 with Smith Street Band at the Bendigo and Friday the 13th of January at the Bendigo again with Aitches for their single launch. Stay posted for a 7" launch show around the end of February and a BIG announcement for a show in March with our heroes....

Wednesday 5 October 2011

We were recently lucky enough to have been asked to take part in a compilation of Australian (and I think a band or two from Asia) punk bands. It has been put together as a showcase of the great things our scene has got going on and it's definitely worth checking out. Featuring: The Smith Street Band, The Bennies, Surprise Wasp, Foxtrot, The Optionals and a BUNCH of others!
As well as being a free CD we will be giving away at shows, it's available as a FREE download. Click the cover and it's all yours.

Triple J Unearthed Radio

Triple J's new Unearthed radio station launches at 8am tomorrow morning and we received an email this week telling us that we'd be one of the first artists played on the station. We're super excited to have been chosen for it and can't wait to tune in a have a listen in the morning.
I think there'll be an app for it for those who don't own digital radios (like me).
Check it out HERE!

Triple J airplay rulz!

L@@K! Fan reviews!
Being a very new band with only a demo in circulation, we haven't expected to get much attention but we've been played on Triple J a few times and it's a really cool feeling! It's been a little while since I'd even looked at our Unearthed profile but my lovely girl Jess pointed out today that we've had a few reviews and that's a cool feeling too!
Have a squiz at our Unearthed page and leave us a friendly comment!

Live video from Gertrudes Brown Couch!

Playing catch up today...

We played a show at the Brown Couch in Fitzroy a few weeks ago and it was by far our best show yet. Check out a video of the song that we didn't quite have time to record for the demo.

Busking on Bourke St - A World Behind

Check it.

That time we had promo photos taken.

Thanks to our friend, the legend, Benny G (Ben Shoots People) we now have some super fancy looking shots of us jamming.
The brief I gave him was "you know the inside cover of Evil Empire by Rage Against The Machine and/or the back cover of Everything Sucks by Descendents? Take a photo like that!"
He did a great job and now we have a bunch of cool looking photos to choose from.....like this one!
Please pay special attention to the sexy look being exchanged by Chris and Jim.
Thanks Benny G!

Emails! Research! Organizing!

Today I sent some emails, one about getting t-shirts printed, another about getting a whole shitload of posters with our demo cover on it.
I did some research into Freeza shows, much easier said than done, if anyone has a complete list of freeza groups and contacts please send it to unionpacificband@gmail.com. That shit sucks.
IN: disc, stamp, cover, sleeve. OUT: Demos
I also made some more demos, we'll have a whole pile of them at the Bridge and Tunnel show @ the Gasometer on Thursday night! If you can't wait, click the link over there --> and chuck it on your ipod, listen to it in the car, on your skateboard or your bike, it's good and it'll make you feel great when you listen to it. What more can you ask for?!

Our first international support!

We got a call a few weeks ago from Andy @ Poison City about supporting Bridge and Tunnel. STOKED! The catch was that because Bridge and Tunnel were headlining the Poison City Weekender, we weren't allowed to promote the show until after the Weekender was done. We nearly blew it when I posted @BNTmusic on Twitter but it is now the Tuesday after and away we go!

This show is going to be a huge amount of fun and we can't wait!
See yas all there!

Friday 26 August 2011

Demos are done, launched and uploaded.

What a weekend it has been already and it's only Saturday morning!

Thursday at The Tote was a good warmup for last nights show at Gertrudes Brown Couch. And what a show it was, we packed a ton of people into that little band room and it seems everyone had a ripper time. We got rid of a bunch of our demos and allegedly had a radio personality singing along to our cover of No Secrets by The Angels. I (Sean) even managed to worm my way into Anchors to play guitar for a song.

In other news, our demo is now available for download from Mediafire. Click here to get it RIGHT NOW!

Now get outside, it's beautiful out there!

Busy week

The calendar this week looks great, jamming Monday, Tuesday, working a show Wednesday and playing shows Thursday and Friday. That's 4 nights of Union Pacific this week and that makes me a super happy dude. Being a new band is all about stage legs, they say a gig is worth 4 practices so by using my skills of basic arithmetic, we're jamming 10 times this week.
Get down to the Tote on Thursday and Gertrudes Brown Couch on Friday, our first ever headlining show! We'll have demos and possibly stickers at both shows. Holy shit, things are rollin'.
Keep it unreal.

I'm so alt.....

I'm so alt I ride my fixie one handed through North Fitzroy with a vinyl record in a brown paper bag under my arm.

I'm so alt I sit in the park across the road from my house loading live Bon Iver videos on YouTube and drinking cider.

I'm so alt I walk to shows drinking longnecks of Coopers Green while postering for my bands' upcoming show.

I'm so alt I sit at work at my mixing console and post blogs in between bands.

I did all these things.

Sunday 14 August 2011

We're not slack I promise! We have evidence!

The demo production line + the posters for the 26th, coming soon to a lamp post near you.
So looking at that last post is a bummer, a month between posts? How lazy is that?!

Sunday day jam planned for today went awry when Jim woke up thoroughly partied out. Just a 2 piece band but we still got a bit done, new songs getting lyrics and another new one started, super good times tune. I'd love to have it on an EP in time for summer, the mood is just perfect!

4 shows coming up in the next little bit.
- The Tote on the 25th with Foxtrot, Kill The Matador and everyones new favourite band (by name only) Keggin!
- Gertrudes on the 26th is our first ever headlining show(!) with Ben Searle and the Quiet Contenders, Mikey Mitchard and the Party Vibez and Josh Whoman and the Foxtrots (for the second day running), check out the poster above.
- Public Bar on the 9th of September is shaping up to be an absolute ripper of a show with Thomy and the Tanks and all round top blokes Freedumb Nation. It's home ground show for those dudes and we're all pretty confident they can put together a kickass party.
Stay posted for a details on a Public Bar show on the 30th of September too.
Time to get some more songs finished because a headlining band can't make do with 4 originals and 2 covers....

Demo covers were delivered today by Nicko and they're looking good. Sitting here folding them I'm super glad we got them printed properly and didn't try and DIY it, what a nightmare that would have been. Tomorrow's mission, order a rubber stamp and 200 plain white blank CD's.

Going to watch Sling Blade now.
Peace,
TUP

Demo is just around the corner!

Things are coming together! I headed back to the studio last night to finish off the very last of the vocals for the demo (as it turned out, the vocals that we thought sounded great while recording at 4am, sounded completely shithouse when heard with fresh ears). Finished that track, mixed and mastered and now the finished version is in my email. Kickass!

Also last night we got the finished artwork for the cover and it's looking great. Check it out below! Nick Vine has done it again!

Keep it unreal.

New design! Super stoked!

Huge thanks to Nick Vine (I wish he had his own design company I could plug right now) for putting together our new logo. It came out amazing and now we look totally profesh (apart from using words like "stoked" and "profesh").

All the other good stuff will be available soon, demos, shirts, mugs....

THANKS NICK! WE OWE YOU ONE!

Monday 11 July 2011

Demo coming soon....

We recorded some songs for a demo a little while ago and pretty soon we're going to have that downloadable on here and the other internet sources around the place. Nick Vine is making some artwork for it and it looks unreal.

Until then just listen to "A World Behind" at the top of this page!

Stay tuned.

Another show down, a little different....

Our good friends from Adelaide Grenadiers were back in Melbourne on Friday night, a show we'd been looking forward to for a while. We were set to be playing with them along with Following Sea and Cavalcade.
NOW, on a somewhat different note, old mate Chris Rawsthorne went and had a little accident and messed up his shoulder (and his stunning face). We figured he was some sort of Superman/wolverine character and didn't really factor in healing time for him, it wasn't until Wednesday of last week that we told Jesse from Grenadiers that Chris wouldn't be able to play. On short notice like that, finding a band would be almost impossible SO I (Sean) offered to play the show solo. Something that I've been interested in doing for a little while but never really thought about the actual process of doing so.
Although it ended up being a terrifying experience bordering on unpleasant, it all went extremely well and the encouragement from everyone in the room made it all worth while!
Have a squiz at the video of A World Behind - solo.

Big thanks to good ol' Hugh Butcher for filming the show and Chucking A Mosh for uploading!
